Terms
The terms for using StockOrNot.
The short version: this is a way of reading public figures on companies and funds, not advice; the figures can be wrong; every investment decision, and every trade you make, is yours.

What this is
StockOrNot publishes the same scores, figures and summaries to everyone, built from companies' and funds' public filings and market data. It is general information about companies and exchange-traded funds, in the manner of a financial publication. It is not investment, tax or legal advice, it is not a recommendation to buy or sell anything, and it does not take account of your circumstances, goals or appetite for risk. StockOrNot is not a broker-dealer or an investment adviser, and using it creates no advisory or fiduciary relationship. Investing carries the risk of losing money, including all of it. Talk to a licensed professional before making decisions that matter to you.
The figures can be wrong
Every figure comes from Finnhub, from the company's or the fund's own SEC filings or from other public sources, is processed automatically, and may be delayed, stale, mis-parsed or simply wrong. The score is arithmetic over those figures, with the limits set out in How the score works. The track record shows what past picks did; it is no promise of what future ones will do. Check the filing itself before relying on anything here.
Your account
- You need to be at least 18 to use StockOrNot.
- Creating an account asks you to tick a box agreeing to these terms. Which version you agreed to, and when, is kept with the account.
- Keep access to your email address to yourself: a sign-in link or code sent to it is enough to get into your account.
- You can download a copy of your data, or delete your account, at any time under Account, as described on the privacy page.
- An account used to attack, overload or misuse the service may be suspended or closed.
A connected brokerage account (website only)
The iPhone app does not connect to a brokerage or place orders. On the website, if you connect an Alpaca account, orders you review and confirm there are sent to Alpaca in your name, and Alpaca's own terms govern your account, your orders and their execution. StockOrNot never holds your money or your securities. You are responsible for every order you confirm, including its size, its price and whether it suits you; check each one before you place it. Orders can fail, be delayed, fill at a different price, or go through even when the site could not confirm them, so check your account at Alpaca after placing orders. Practice (paper) accounts use pretend money.
Using the site fairly
- Do not copy the site's data in bulk, scrape it, or republish it: much of it comes from providers whose terms do not allow passing it on.
- Do not try to break into, disrupt or overload the site, its accounts or the services behind it, or to get around its limits.
- Company, fund and index names and tickers belong to their owners and are used only to identify them.
Membership
There is no paid membership today. Everything StockOrNot offers is free, and nothing can be bought on the site or in the app. If that changes, these terms change first.
No warranty
StockOrNot is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, timeliness, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. It may change, pause or stop at any time.
Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, StockOrNot and the people who run it are not liable for any loss from investment or trading decisions, for orders placed or not placed, for errors or delays in data, or for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or lost profits. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid StockOrNot in the twelve months before the claim, or $50 if you paid nothing. Some places do not allow some of these limits, and where they do not, they apply only as far as the law permits.
The rest
- These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California and of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
- If part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If these terms change, this page changes first, and the date at the top moves. Using the site or the app after a change means accepting the new terms.
